The Future of UK Kitchen Furniture: Navigating Growth and Economic Challenges

To celebrate the launch of the 17th edition of the UK residential kitchen furniture market report 2024-2028, Editor of the Report, Claudia Charquet shares just some of the insight found within the report below.
Market Value
By 2028, the UK residential kitchen furniture market is forecast to be worth £2.21bn at MSP, 14.4% more than its estimated market value in 2020. This follows a period of fluctuating growth and contraction since 2019.
Product Sub-Sectors
Kitchen furniture is by far the largest sub-sector, accounting for an estimated 78% of the market by value in 2024. The other two main sub-sectors are worktops (14%) and sinks (8%). These shares have remained fairly static, although there has been an increase within the worktop sub-sector of high-end products, such as granite and quartz in recent years.
What’s dominating the market?
This is a mature market, with household ownership of fitted kitchens currently at over 80%, and the majority of purchases being for replacement kitchens. The market is dominated by fitted furniture and this has been the case for the last few years.
Manufacturers & Suppliers
A relatively small number of major manufacturers account for a majority of the kitchen furniture manufacturers sub-sector. The structure of the kitchen worktop sub-sector is more fragmented with a range of suppliers of different worktops using different materials. Supply of kitchen sinks is concentrated among a few leading companies.
Market Forecast
The challenging economic conditions in recent years have stifled consistent growth in this market. However, the outlook is improving, which is likely to lead to growth in this market, partly due to a stronger housing market and an increase in new housing.
Editor’s Quote
“After a period of growth, economic uncertainty since 2019 has constrained this market. The faltering housing building sector has also limited the demand for new kitchens.
However, the UK economy appears to be entering a more stable period, with inflation almost in line with the Bank of England’s target, and mortgage rates starting to come down. New planning policies and the government drive to achieve its targets for house building are likely to contribute to an increase in demand for residential kitchen furniture in the next few years.”
